Flower coasters... a little TUT

You will need the patter, you should be able to download the picture and it should be the right size..

you need...

2       7  inch squares for the main fabric
1       7 inch piece of batting, cotton if possible or 80/20
1        2 1/2 inch square of fabric or a fussy cut flower for the center of the flower
1        2 1/2 inch piece of  "heat n bond" light
I use a water soluble marking pencil for the pattern pieces
thread to match or the color of your choice....
a white "HERA" marker from Clover  to form and push out the curves once turned inside out...
I use my Bernina 23 foot because I can see the line to sew on.  The sewing line is curved, so not that easy to sew with a regular foot..

I am sure that you all have scraps of beautiful fabric to make these, I am using my scraps from Kaffe Fassett to make these,  the fabric is from borders that I put on and WOW!! there is a lot left...  but they will be wonderful on the table in the garden when spring comes around..

Place your fabric right sides together, trace your flower with the pattern on the fabric facing you..
Place your batting under the fabric and sew on the traced line all away around, we will turn it right side out my making a slit in the center...  you will cut out the flower leaving a really scant 1/4 inch for easy turning..
your pattern

Fabric for the flower, right side together, traced with a water slouble marker, batting on the underside of the fabric, my sewing foot, thread, and fabric flower for the center, heat n bond.

Here we go....  Sew around the design, back stitch at the end,  the design is closed...

Cut out around the design, leaving a really scant 1/4 inch, I would say a large 1/8 inch, but careful not to cut too close to the sewing line...

Trace a line in the center of the flower about one inch long, this is your cutting line ...
Make a slit and cut... careful not to go through the two fabrics...

turn right side out...

Once nicely turned, take your clover tool and push out the petals... they look great?  ... IRON...

Flower center..  cut out your heat n bond a little larger than needed,  center it on a flower, or whatever fabric that you chose,  iron it on the wrong side of the fabric, cut out and....

turn your flower to the side that has the slit on it, the center will cover this... Iron nicely your flower, find the center, take off the paper on your flower center, find the center and iron in place.

Now that you have that done, off to the sewing machine to do a pretty stitch around the center and the quilting around...
I did an applique stitch but you can use any fancy stitch that you like as long as it catches the side of the center piece...

Now the little quilting stitch around...

The back, just as pretty as the front...cut your threads and keep everything clean...

Here it is... all done, well almost,

Give a little spritz, the magic... beautiful flower coaster  :-)

ENJOY!!
